Yoga Therapy Program
Yoga Therapy is an emerging field that is taking root in our culture as an integrative health care practice. The need for professionals trained in yoga therapy is on the rise and there is an increasing interest in bringing the tools of yoga into a wide variety of settings. Our new Yoga Therapy Program has been refined to serve the evolving needs of individuals and organizations and serves as a vehicle for deepening your understanding of the healing aspects of yoga.
While much of yoga in popular culture has been focused on the physical benefits of practice, the psychological and spiritual dimensions of yoga have been underrepresented. This training will focus on the incredibly sophisticated tools of yoga and yoga therapy for bringing balance on these levels. The Program will include in-depth teachings that integrate asana, pranayama, meditation, self-reflection, visualization, mantra, affirmation and prayer. It will be highly experiential in nature for a deeper integration and understanding of the internal yoga experience. Suitable for Yoga Professionals, Health Care practitioners, experienced students and those who may be experiencing chronic health conditions interested in seeing how the therapeutic application of yoga may help.

iRest Integrative Restoration with Richard Miller
Join Richard Miller for this in-depth workshop of the ancient transformative tantric meditative practice of Yoga Nidra (yoga = embodying what is timeless + nidra = across all states of consciousness) that leads to psychological, physical and spiritual healing. The ultimate design of Yoga Nidra is to help us live awakened and contented lives, free of conflict, anxiety, fear and suffering. The protocol is integrative, as it heals unresolved traumas that are present in the body, mind and senses; and restorative, as it reveals our inherent ground of unchanging pure Being that is always whole and healthy even in the midst of the changing events or traumas of daily life.
Richard Miller is the founder and director of the non-profit Center of Timeless Being, co-founder and co-president of the Institute for Spirituality and Psychology, and co-founder of The International Association of Yoga Therapy. Richard is the author of Yoga Nidra: The Meditative Heart of Yoga as well as numerous articles including “Welcoming All That Is”, in The Sacred Mirror: Nondual Wisdom and Psychotherapy. He is recognized as a leader in the field of nondualism, honored by Yoga Journal and featured in American Yoga and Will Yoga and Meditation Really Change My Life? www.nondual.com

Through lecture, practice, discussion and role-playing you will learn to cultivate full presence, develop strong communication and counseling skills, learn yoga methods and techniques to enhance the individual client’s mind-body consciousness and increase awareness of your own deeper wisdom. This weekend will help you develop, inform and refine your intuitive skills to support healing on a deeper level.

March 27 & 28: Janice Gates
Saturday ~ Mind in Body, Body in Mind; Daylong Yoga & Meditation Retreat, 9:30-5
This silent daylong yoga and meditation retreat at Green Gulch Zen Center will be an opportunity to deepen your own practice and understanding of the mind/body relationship. Moving beyond concepts, we will dive into the river of direct experience; the world of sensations, thoughts, feelings and emotions and explore how the mind and body affect and reflect each other.
Sunday ~ Breath, Mind and Emotions; Pranayama
The modern split between body and mind, self and soul is first healed through the breath. The breath is the bridge between the body and the mind and a vehicle through which we can affect our thoughts, feelings energy and emotions. In this weekend we will gain an experiential understanding of prana (life energy) and citta (consciousness, mind/heart) and how they relate to the breath and to our experience. Simple principles and practices for working with the breath for difficult mental, emotional and energetic states will be taught and practiced.

April 17 & 18 Lynn Weinberger
Saturday ~ Healing Yoga for Your Type; Ayurvedic Doshas
According to Ayurveda, biological existence is a dance of the three doshas; vatta (wind), pitta (fire) and kapha (water). While the three doshas are present in all of us, one of the three predominates in each individual and becomes the basic force of her/his particular constitution and mind/body type. Determining which dosha predominates in someone helps s to design a yoga practice for that individual. With Ayurveda, we can use our yoga practice to not only ensure health, but to actualize our full potential as human beings. Saturday's session will begin with a brief overview of the theory of the doshas and then we will take a small test to determine our doshic types. This will be followed by practice of asana combined with pranayama. As we practice, modifications of asanas and pranayama will be given to illustrate how we can tailor a sequence to benefit the individual doshas.
Sunday ~ Yoga Therapy for Back Care; physical, psychological and emotional aspects
This session begins with a discussion of the mind/body connection to back pain. There will be a review of basic anatomy of the back and primary causes of back pain, followed by a description of the National Institute of Health study on back pain. This study demonstrated what a powerful and effective method Viniyoga is to relieve back pain. We will then practice asana and pranayama sequences that will illustrate which asanas may be used safely with those experiencing a variety of upper and lower back pain conditions.
Lynn Weinberger began her study of yoga during the 12 years she lived in India in the 1960's with her husband, Jon. She has practiced yoga for over 40 years, is a Certified Viniyoga Therapist and has completed the 1000 hour teacher training with Gary Kraftsow and the American Viniyoga Institute as well as three other certification programs. Teaching for ten years now, Lynn is an ERYT with Yoga Alliance, a member of IAYT and is featured in two DVD series on the National Institute of Health-sponsored clinical study on back care and sits on the board of the American Viniyoga Institute's board of directors. She teaches at Yoga Garden and sees students privately. www.lynnweinbeger.com
